NBA Accidents Waiting to Happen
The NBA game cut short last night due to an all-out melee was nothing more than the inevitable result of packing the league full of amateurs. Many of these guys simply don't know how to handle bad situations with fans...they can't act professionally. Artest is nothing but trouble, and though the fan who threw beveage at him was in no way in the right, you just can't charge up into the stands to attack the (wrong) fan. What else was the crowd supposed to do at that point? As my buddy Al stated:
You can take the guy outta the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto outta the guy.
The suspensions will be severe, and rightly so. I'm sure many of the fans involved will be charged with something as well, as there is tons of video documentation from the night's fracas. How are you going to come onto the court and challenge one of these guys to a fight? On the other side of the coin, some of the sucker punches thrown by the likes of Steven Jackson and Jermaine O'Neal won't go unnoticed nor unlitigated.
The only good thing to come out of last night's debacle in Detroit was the chance for the ESPNs of the world to dig up footage of some other classic rumbles. My personal favorite: Bruins at the Garden in 79, complete with a man being beaten with his own shoe. Reminds me of life back in Eastie...
